While searching around online for cool design ideas, I came across HGTV's Rate My Space for dorm rooms.I love seeing what people can do with a small space. To me, it's a welcome challenge. The pink room was my sophomore year room at my sorority house. Here are a few tips for decorating a small space.
1. Use mirrors. Not only will they make the room look bigger, but they will also make it look brighter.
2. Keep the clutter to a minimum. The designer of the green room did a fabulous job following the "less is more" motto & it paid off. Just because something "matches" your space doesn't mean you should buy it. (Someone should have told me that.)
3. Use organizers. In your closet, under the bed and on your shelves. No matter where you put them you'll have a place for everything and everything in its place.
4. Light it up. You can never have too much light when it comes to illuminating the cement block walls you will soon call home. The light bulbs that mimic natural light are a great addition to any lamp.
5. Pick your colors wisely. This is a small space where you'll be spending a ton of time. A color scheme can make you feel a spectrum of emotions from happy, to tranquil, to funky, but if you aren't careful your scheme could make you feel depressed or tired. Warm colors are always a great place to begin to feel your best (reds, yellows, oranges).
